About Us

Locally "grown" husband and wife owners, Mark Meehan and Deborah Morandi, met while Mark was working as the head chef at the Whitcomb Summit in Florida, MA. Their passion for food eventually turned into a life in the restaurant industry.

Early in his career, Mark spent over 20 years building several restaurants all over the United States including Bonefish Grill, Sonny's BBQ, Famous Fred Flemings BBQ, and Benihana. After working all day as a contractor, his evenings were spent he studying under the owners and chefs to hone his culinary skills and create his own signature sauces and methods. Although he spent years leading restaurant kitchens to success, as well as owning his own contracting business, Mark knew that his real passion was cooking and had always dreamed of owning a restaurant. Deborah's career consisted of Human Resources and Office Management; therefore, the combination of his talent for creating delicious food and her organizational skills were a perfect match.

When the 55 Main Street restaurant location became available, it immediately brought back fond memories of dining at the original Capitol Restaurant for both Mark and Deborah. They agreed that the time was right to have Mark's delicious food be loved by all. Choosing a name for their new venture was easy...The Capitol was back!

Mark and Deborah are very proud to revive a part of North Adams history with the return of the "Capitol Restaurant" name adorning the fa├žade of the building's signature arch window. They look forward to everyone enjoying their menu of freshly made cuisine in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
